Memorable events that happened in Shanghai, mostly copy-pasted from my blog.
Add on if you guys remember others!

  1. Late night Nanjinglu adventure! Never get so carried away with shopping that you miss the last train or you’ll get stuck in the freezing streets of Shanghai for 1.5h hours searching for non-existant taxis until a kind lady comes along to walk you back to your destination, which is 45min away.
  2. Wanted to take a photo with a cute old lady wearing a princess hat so we asked her, and she said “$5 please.”
  3. Ordered barley drink (yi mi) but was served corn juice (yu mi).
  4. Jieying fell down on public roads 5times in a day. (I swear it had nothing to do with me).
  5. Sherlene the russian mafia chuckling bowling ball polar bear Ahma tried poking her straw into her drink, with the wrapper still on. She claimed that it’s cause she saw a China lady do it, but that China lady just forgot to take the wrapper off.
  6. Some saw live tiny goldfishes being sold in keychains. Cruel. And the guy selling those keychains disappeared in 3s when a policeman came along. It went like this: Policeman: "bu yao zai mai le! (don't sell already)" Man selling goldfish: "mai wan le! mai wan le! (finished selling!)"
  7. The Datong teacher absolutely lurrvvesss Leo. Hugs. (Hahahaha!)
  8. Threw a ball at Jieying that hit her forehead then fell into sherlene’s shoe. Sherlene: (In her ahma bellylaugh) HAHAHAHA! Louise: Don’t smell it! Don’t smell it!
  9. Chicky is the new strings mascot. Leo shitted on Chicky.
  10. Louise's strategy to get a seat on the bus OR to get off the bus: Scream "RANG KAI!" [this has been PROVEN and TESTED by louise herself]
  11. If Sherlene was stranded in the toilet after pooping without toilet paper and nobody outside to hear her, she would sit there and cry. (NO SHE WON'T! that's renjean's story)
  12. Li Dao (the tour guide) said to the lady-driver of the tram at the China OBS, after she agreed to reverse the tram to get to where we wanted to go to: "zai zhe me leng de yi tian, kan dao ni de re xin, wo zhen shi kai xin si le! (on such a cold day, having seen your re xin ("hot heart"), I'm so happy I could die!)
  13. After eating ma la tang on the night at Nanjing road, we accidentally spilled the soup on the table, and everyone was in a frenzy "AH AH AH!" and the beggar near us went "zhao huo le! zhao huo le! (on fire! on fire!)"
  14. Leo tried bargaining for something (can't remember what). It was 15 yuan, and he asked the lady for 14 yuan and she was like "what's the point of bargaining? It's just 1 yuan!" But he gradually improved. Chen Lao Shi is still the best at bargaining.
Let's hope for more memories together in the future and bond as one NJSO!

HELLO PEOPLE

I THINK SHANGHAI TRIP WAS A BLAST! first and foremost, i wanna thank you all for the spontaneity you possessed, the funk, the spunk and the wunk (whatever that is) and most importantly, the responsibility and initiative that you showed during the trip, not just for yourself but for those around you as well. I hope all your initial goals that you set for the trip were achieved :)

i would REALLY love to post pictures here, but my pictures are HORRIBLE! audrey's compiling pictures (she will put the DVD in the strings room), Leo is kindly helping to do a photo collage/video. Michelle! Lets put some of thep ictures up on the wall :) thanks guys!

A VERY SHORT MESSAGE TO ALL THE STRINGERS (please bear with the horrid english):

AUD(no na): the gypsie woman, for taking care of everyone, and acting like a second ah-ma (no one can beat my superiority) to ensure everyone's safety during the trip, I think that was marvellous. And also for encouraging us that we can play.
AUDNA: you neeed to walk in front okay! HAHA. ok that aside, for keeping your spirit high even in the coldest of weathers :). you may be small in size, but your heart is big! :) so bring it on, and let everyone see what you're made of! :)
ZILI: my stand partner! i think you were way cool when you were ordering the 'gao' for us. and when you met a comrade from hunan who so kindly led us to another bustop to get back to the hostel. thanks for taking care of everyone, and being so jovial throughout the trip. i'm glad that i got to know u so much better through this trip.
XIAOXING: president's calmness in times of adversity matches vice-presidents over-worry(ness). you crack the lamest of jokes, so much so that my toes have fallen off in the cold. Leo: "How's everyone doing?" XX: "Couldn't be better." in the heart of Nanjing Road, where we were stranded one fateful night at -1 degree celsius.
RENJEAN: you and your singing with audrey. thanks for being a little ball of joy that eats like she's never seen food before. and by the way, i caught you saying this very weird sentence "I eat a lot, but I eat very slowly" usually if they use the word 'but' it goes like this "I eat a lot, but I eat very quickly". i think the word 'and' might have been more appropriate.
LOUISE: MY BELOVED ROOMIE! *only YOUUUUUUUUUUUUU* (the chipmunk song). I must say I have learnt somuch about you. you are funny. who in the world laughs like a silly donkey in front of the teevee? (LOUISE!) who on earth never ever combs her hair and bought her first ever comb in shanghai? (LOUISE!) who in the right mind squeeeezes and rushes to sit in a oh-so-crowded bus/train? (LOUISE who literally slips her way into an empty seat the moment someone lifts his/her butt from it!) who is the weird person that self-proclaims to be the stringer of the month? (LOUISE!) But, aside from these unglamorous facts of louise, i need to say that you were great to be with.
JIEYING: oooh the lovely senior who gets static all the time. you are one of the coolest seniors in my coolest-senior-list. "YOU'RE THE BEST!" :) anywayz, thanks for being so ON and enthu about this trip, and bringing the strings family closer. i still strongly believe that sidepartings are better than centre partings.
LEO: WEAR YOUR COAT in cold weathers!! u were funny to be around with, and thanks for carrying my marvellous luggage through the window. HAHA. heyy jiayou and work hard on playing your bass! (same goes to all the other stringers:)) i think chicky no love you after you shitted on it.

I think it was an awesomely FRUITFUL trip! AND I AM SO GLAD THAT EACH AND EVERYONE OF U WERE THERE WITH ME! :) I love the tourguide and chen lao shi too! For cindy, tingyi, lichun, ziqian, michelle and nush, though we're sad u guys couldn't join us, we're all still part of strings! :) and we love you muchly!! we'll share our memories (and my great souvenirs of 'gao') with youuuz PLUS i wanna go for another strings trip with ALL OF YOU next YEAR!!!!
